Today was our monthly RACES meeting at the county Emergency Operatoins Center. After the meeting our Emergency Management Director asked me if I had a minute. He took me into Dispatch, introduced me to the on duty deispatchers and had me sit down at a console. One of the dispatchers showed me around the radio console and gave me a quick orientation all the monitors. Each position has 4 screens connected to 2 computers. One for ANI/ALI (the automatic location information that the 911 operator gets when you dial 911, one for the mapping software which has pictures of all the houses in the county to help locate an emergency, and two screens for the Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) and Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) software.
Afterwards I spoke with the EMA director about what might make my chances better if, he says its a definite when, something comes open. He told me what I’ve already done is going to help a ton and he’s going to get me a couple other ideas.
I’m excited. I really want to do something like this. I hope God wants me to too.
Unlike MGiant at Velcrometer (velcro-meter) I don’t have enough hits to do a top search phrase every time I post, but someone got here by searching for:
“men like scanky women”
Ok, umm. First, no because scanky = bad. Second, MSN Search, you should add a context filter or something. Finally, former University of Toronto student, I hope that was for a psych research project :-).
It’s official. All this talk of blogs, blogging, babbling, and the like has convinced Tigress that there is no alternative but to join us. Check her out at GrowlingTigress.blogspot.com. Welcome to the Blogosphere Honey, you will never be the same.
So, now I’ve become an official blogger. Thanks to TechTiger, Shanti SAS, and Snowflake for inspiring me. I am a little weird, airheaded, and I like to ramble, so be prepared.
The Meeting of the Mindless
The meeting of fellow mindless ones last week was weird, crazy, and fun. I especially liked being called “marshmellow.” The name actually fits in some wacky way. I also discovered that I fit in with my husbands crazy friends.
The buzz word around work for the last 2 years has been “strategic plan” and we’ve been talking about how to stick to it. So, I suppose I should make some plans for 2006. I could make goals and resolutions and probably not stick to them. The only plan I have made is a “strategic plan” for what I am going to do with my hair. I got it trimmed today, and was frustrated with it, so I envisioned the next several months. So, I’ve planned out the trimming, perming, and highlighting of it over the next 8 months. My husband just rolls his eyes at me. So, what else am I going to do for 2006? I have no clue.
Today is Lewis Braille’s birthday (well, technically was, since he’s really, really, dead at this point) and in honor of that Google has replaced their usual logo with what Google looks like in Braille. Very cool.
Today is also John’s birthday. In honor of this, Shanti is giving him a cherry pie. Mmm, pie! Happy birthday John.
Ok, so I’m like a week behind, but someone had to be last :-).
It was so cool to get together with Sas, Shanti, Snowflake, and our newest Mindless One my beautiful wife Tigress.
Aside from my wedding, where Sas sang beautifully and had everyone in tears, I don’t think I’ve seen any of them in around 3 years. The opportunity to catch up and cause havoc was just too good.
As we usually do, we talked about anything, everything, nothing, and sometimes all at the same time. I was really glad to see that, as I suspected, Tigress was just as crazy as the rest of us and fit right in.
I am incredibly blessed to have such a wonderful group of friends. I’m glad we can still communicate over the internet and when we get together, we pick up where we left off, like we don’t live 300 miles apart and haven’t seen each other in either of Shanti’s childrens’ lifetimes. Makes me sorry we don’t live a little bit closer.
Great recaps of the event have alson been posted by Shanti, Snowflake, and Sas who also did a killer mashup mix thing of some audio harvested from the event. GO. LISTEN. NOW. IT’s great stuff.
You guys, go get Ventrillo. I’ve already got the server, so come out and play more.
Geez. I sound like a little kid :-).
You guys rock!! I still want my Seeing Eye Kangaroo.
Following up on my earlier post about the vehicle fire. A bystander indicated that when he pulled the driver from the burning vehicle he smelled copious amounts of ETOH (chemical abbreviation for alcohol) on the subject. Further info indicates that this vehicle was possibly involved in a drug related incident earlier in the evening.
What a dark, crime infested town we live in.
Update: The suspect evaded police for approximately 1 hour and is now on his way to the hospital, in custody, with minor head trauma. Remember, head wounds bleed like mad and may appear worse than they actually are… or so I’ve been told.
I just paid most of our bills for the month in the span of 5 minutes. I did it all online. I refuse to pay any bill via mail or in person unless absolutely necessary. I mention this because I saw several people on the bus today running errands just to drop off payments. Man, that’s gotta suck up an entire day.
Granted, some people don’t have computers, but I know pleanty of people who can use them and don’t. ¿Por que no? Please do tell.
I refuse to trust automatic payments after getting royally clobbered by Verizon one time, but I love the convenience of this.
I posted something with AudioBlogger earlier, and it seems to have eaten my post. Not only did it take me 5 attempts to log in, but then it ate it. AudioBlogger aparently has a monster under it’s server rack.
County sheriff and fire units are responding to a fully involved vehicle fire. The driver has taken off running. It appears he is bleeding badly. Wonder why he’s running for? My guess, knowing this county, DUI.
Oh yeah. A follow up to my earlier gripe about my ringtone. I got it to work. All it took was a new phone :-).
